This year’s program presents the work of Madison Brookshire, John Cannizzaro, Erik Deutschman, Gwenaelle Gobe, Thomas Helman, Christina McPhee, and Dena DeCola and Karin E. Wandner, and is curated by Jaimie Baron and Victoria Meng, who are both graduate film scholars studying at UCLA and volunteers at the Los Angeles Filmforum.&lt;br /&gt;This year’s First Sight Scene includes Madison Brookshire’s landscape meditation entitled Opening, shot on 16mm film and accompanied by a minimalist soundtrack performed by live musicians; John Cannizzaro’s Super8 poem Fountain of Youth, which explores feelings of nostalgia for childhood and a disappearing medium of remembrance; Erik Deutschman’s comic experiment with optical illusion, entitled Stare Gently; Gwenaelle Gobe’s animated short, The Old Noise, in which the filmmaker uses silhouette cut-outs to tell the story of a girl with two heads; Thomas Helman’s nightmarish digital animation df/dx; Christina McPhee’s video Carrizoprime, which traces seismic distortion along the San Andreas Fault; and Five More Minutes, Dena DeCola and Karin E. Wander’s moving blend of documentary and narrative about a mother and daughter.&lt;br /&gt;Screening time: approximately 75 minutes&lt;br /&gt;Los Angeles Filmforum is the city’s longest-running organization that screens non-commercial experimental and avant-garde films and video art, documentaries, and animation.
